Scholarship Overview

The CBC Spouses Essay Contest Scholarship is an annual program organized by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) to encourage young students to research and discuss important issues affecting their communities.

Through this essay competition, eligible high school juniors and seniors are invited to write and present their views on a topic related to social and community challenges. Selected winners receive scholarship funding and an opportunity to attend a major leadership event in Washington, D.C.

The competition is designed to promote academic excellence, leadership, and civic awareness among African-American and Black students.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a high school junior or senior (Grade 11 or 12) at the time of application
  • Must identify as African-American or Black
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
  • Must live in a district represented by a member of the Congressional Black Caucus
  • Must submit an original essay addressing the contest topic
  • Must meet academic and participation requirements set by the selection committee

Applications are reviewed by a committee from the CBC Spouses organization.
